With my website, designed to accompany the music video for Flume's Numb & Getting Colder, I have decided to retain the concepts explored in my music video, including the contrast between warm and cool tones to reveal the narrative of the relationship breakup.
During our initial contextual research into existing artist websites for our axillary text, we discovered many vital and aesthetic conventions. The most prominent convention of these websites, from artists of a similar genre, is the importance given to marketing and promotion of both the brand and new content. For example, all of the websites which we decided to analyse featured a broad range of external social media links, such as Twitter and Soundcloud, which take you to the online profiles of the band/artist allowing the user to follow and keep up to date with their releases. Social media is at the heart of modern marketing, therefore it makes sense to prioritise this on the website. We decided for this reason to reinforce this convention as we found marketing to be the fundamental purpose and function of an artist's website.
Digi-Pak
The second tie-in product to accompany the music video was the digi-pak and booklet. With this particular outcome, I found it to be more useful to conform to, rather than challenge, the conventions of real media products in order to ensure that the product would be marketable. In order to sustain my the existing brand identity across these products, I used the narrative as a motif - forming decisions to reflect this, such as the continued contrast between warm/cool tones in order to convey a transition from a positive, healthy relationship, to a cold and broken couple.
